What to Expect at Your Eye Exam

Your eye exam is more than just a vision check—it’s a complete eye health assessment. Our exams include:

  • A discussion about your vision concerns and medical history
  • A series of tests to assess your eyesight, including refraction and visual acuity
  • A thorough check for eye conditions like glaucoma, cataracts, and macular degeneration
  • An evaluation of how your eyes work together
  • Personalized recommendations based on your needs

How Long Does an Eye Exam Take?

Your time is valuable, and we strive to make every moment count. A standard eye exam typically takes 30–45 minutes, giving us enough time to check your vision and eye health thoroughly.

If you need additional tests or a contact lens fitting, it may take a little longer. Rest assured, we’ll keep things efficient while making sure you feel comfortable and well-informed every step of the way.

OHIP Coverage for Eye Exams

In Ontario, OHIP covers certain eye exams based on age and medical conditions:

  • Children (0–19 years old): One full eye exam per year
  • Seniors (65+ years old): One full eye exam per year if you have an eligible medical condition such as glaucoma, diabetes, or macular degeneration. Without a medical condition, seniors are covered for one full eye exam every 18 months.
  • Adults (20–64 years old): Exams may be covered if you have certain medical conditions such as glaucoma, diabetes, or macular degeneration.

If you have questions about your coverage, our team is happy to help you explore your options.

Types of Eye Exams We Offer

Types of Eye Exams We Offer

Adult & Senior Eye Exams

Regular eye exams are essential for maintaining healthy vision, especially as we age. We check for common age-related conditions like cataracts, glaucoma, and macular degeneration. Our comprehensive exams help detect these issues early, helping to protect your vision.

We also make sure that your prescription is up to date, helping you see as clearly and comfortably as possible in your day-to-day life.

A child’s vision plays a critical role in their learning and development, as much of their early education is visual. Our children’s eye exams assess their eyesight, eye coordination, depth perception, and overall eye health.

Early detection of vision issues like myopia (nearsightedness) or strabismus (crossed eyes) can significantly affect students’ academic success and daily lives.

If you’re interested in contact lenses, we offer specialized exams to determine the best lenses for your eyes. Contact lenses require more than just a standard prescription—they need to fit your eye shape, lifestyle, and comfort preferences.

We’ll check your prescription, measure your eye shape, and provide guidance on proper lens care.

Diabetes can affect your eyes in ways you may not notice, potentially leading to conditions like diabetic retinopathy, which can cause vision loss if left untreated. Our diabetic eye exams include modern retinal imaging and thorough screenings to help detect early signs of complications.

By closely monitoring your eye health, we can help protect your vision and recommend proactive steps to manage any issues that may come up.
